or another thought, if soceity dictates , then all these people pickup camera corders, even though not producing art in its truest form , in effect create tehre own art form and thus it becomes art, but we live in a soceity that is dictated by the media so are we screwed ?

It all sounds a little too far up its own arse for me. But then again Im just an ignorant working class teenager. Shit forgot. Im not a teenager anymore. Im still workin class thought.

Ask him why people cant just paint nice pictures anymore. Or whats up with just a good story. Why does it have to be all weird and "clever". I mean does he think a thumprint in a peice of bluetack is art.

who says they arent producing art in its 'truest' form?
There was a time when pencils/pens were only available to monks.
Thank goodness that changed.
It didnt pollute the art of writing, it changed it and it grew into something else (and still continues to). Sure few people can decorate or calligraphise their work the way that the Ionian monks used to, but writing (and society) has benefitted in many other ways instead.
Sure you loose something by making tools widely available, but you gain much more in the context of human communication.

Also, if we do live in a society dictated by media, then these tools all help to give a voice to those who otherwise cant be heard.
I guess the problem is that a commercially driven organisation (such as the BBC) wont be that interested in airing a low quality home DV movie, so we still get the battle of the withouts against the withs. ('normal people' against 'large budgeted studios') only the playing field is different. (ie: its a TV set rather than a newspaper, or a local council meeting ....or whatever)
